Hope is high for Pope Francis’s full recovery from complications arising from respiratory and kidney illness.
The Holy See Press Office, which provides daily updates on the Holy Father’s health, stated in a report on Wednesday that his health condition has continued to improve, with positive test results from blood samples and a CT scan.
“The Holy Father ‘s condition has shown a slight further improvement over the past 24 hours. The mild kidney insufficiency observed in recent days has subsided. A chest CT scan carried out last night showed a normal progression of the lung inflammation. Blood tests conducted today confirmed the improvement seen yesterday,” the statement read.
Despite no longer experiencing asthma-like respiratory attacks, Pope Francis remains on high-flow oxygen therapy, the Press Office noted, adding that his respiratory physiotherapy is ongoing.
The statement further explained that while the Pontiff’s prognosis remains guarded, his health has shown positive improvement. He has remained active from his hospital room at Gemelli Hospital, where he has been receiving treatment since 14 February.
On Wednesday, the Vatican News reported that the Pope prepared his catechesis for the General Audience, reflecting on the Presentation in the Temple. He called on the faithful to emulate the faith of Simeon and Anna as model “pilgrims of faith.”
Speaking of Simeon, he said: “A witness of faith received as a gift and communicated to others,…a witness of hope that does not disappoint,…a witness of God’s love, which fills the human heart with joy and peace.”
Similarly, he described Anna as devout in prayers and “dedicated to service,” proclaiming the redemptive nature of God in the child Jesus. The Holy Father urged all believers to look up to Jesus, who brings hope to humanity.
