A Catholic priest from the Diocese of Shendam, Rev. Fr.
Cornelius Manzak Damulak, has been kidnapped on Thursday
morning by unknown gunmen.
According to a press statement released by the Chancellor of the
diocese, Rev. Fr. Joshua Daffa, on 6 February, the priest was
abducted from his residence in Zuma 2, Bwari Area Council,
Abuja, where he resides as a student of Veritas University, Abuja.
“The incident occurred in the early hours of the day,” Fr. Daffa
stated, urging the public to pray for the priest’s safe return.
“We invite all Christ’s faithful and all people of goodwill to storm
the heavens with prayers for his quick and safe release from the
hands of his abductors.
“We entrust our brother, Fr. Cornelius Manza Damulak to the
maternal intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary our Mother and
all the saints to keep him strong and return him back to us safely,”
the statement read.
The abduction of Catholic priests for ransom has been on the rise,
particularly in rural areas. The Catholic Church has repeatedly
condemned these acts and called for urgent action to address the
root causes of insecurity and rising criminal activities.
