During the official launch, Musa Ashoms, the Commissioner of Tourism, Culture, and Hospitality, expressed pride in Plateau State’s participation in this global event. He emphasized the relevance of this year’s theme, noting that as the “Home of Peace and Tourism,” it aligns with the state’s historical commitment to peacebuilding. “This day holds special importance for Plateau State. Our dedication to fostering a conducive tourism environment is highlighted by the recent memorandum of understanding signed by His Excellency, Barrister Celeb Manase Mutfwang, with investors aimed at boosting agritourism and culinary tourism,” Ashoms stated.

The event lineup promises to showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage, with performances scheduled at various locations including the Jos Museum, Shere Hill, and the Secretariat Roundabout. The grand finale will take place at Jos Wildlife Park, followed by an entertainment Interchange at Tuduwada Hill Grill, uniting creatives, content creators, photographers, and chefs.
Chuwang Pwajok, General Manager of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation, underscored the importance of World Tourism Day in spotlighting the vital role tourism plays in global development. “Tourism is recognized as a significant revenue generator and a cornerstone of development. Plateau State proudly joins the global community in commemorating this day, which resonates profoundly as we work towards enduring peace in our region,” Pwajok noted.
He also acknowledged the government’s initiatives in promoting tourism through public-private partnerships. Projects in progress include the redevelopment of Hill Station Hotel, Plateau Hotel, and Solomon Lar Amusement Park, as well as enhancements at Jos Wildlife Park, such as improved fencing, water supply, and solar lighting.

In a bid to engage younger participants, the Plateau State Tourism Corporation has teamed up with the Lightning Roller Skating Association, adding an element of excitement to the celebrations. Additional events include city tours of local attractions like Cherry Hills and the National Museum, with free entrance to Jos Wildlife Park today, encouraging residents to connect with nature.
Through these initiatives, Plateau State aims to solidify its identity as a peaceful and appealing tourist destination, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable growth in the tourism sector. The celebrations are set to culminate in a vibrant showcase of Plateau’s cultural richness and hospitality, reaffirming the state’s leadership in tourism promotion across Nigeria.
