Leaders of organized labour have confirmed their acceptance of the N70,000 minimum wage approved by President Bola Tinubu for Nigerian workers.
Minister of Information Mohammed Idris informed State House correspondents that the president made this announcement during a meeting with labour leaders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
After the meeting, Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), briefed reporters, stating that the unions accepted the offer. Accompanied by Comrade Festus Usifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and other worker representatives, Ajaero explained that the acceptance was due to additional incentives attached to the offer.
He further mentioned that another factor for their acceptance was the president’s promise to review the minimum wage every three years, a change from previous practices.
