Arising from the weekly General Audience, Pope Francis who has had mild flu symptoms barely a week ago, was taken to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, on the Tiber Island for diagnosis.
A report made available by the Holy See Press Office on Wednesday asserted that Pope Francis, earlier had to cancel some of his planned papal audiences, as a precautionary measure to contain the symptoms of cold he has had.
Earlier, during the General Audience, Pope Francis assigned one of those that assist him, Monsignor Filippo Ciampanelli, to read the Catechesis on his behalf.
“ Dear Brothers and sisters, I still have a bit of cold,” Pope Francis could barely be heard to say, as he handed over to his aide.
Although the Pope’s health was fragile, he still was able to exchange pleasantries with his audience, shaking hands with visiting pilgrims, blessing newly wed couples, and speaking with bishops.
Shortly after the audiences, he was conveyed to the hospital where he received treatment and returned to the Vatican afterwards.
Details of the tests carried out at the hospital is yet to be made available by the Vatican.
